The course is an exploration of the prevailing theories and empirical methods in the study of social psychology. We will cover the history of the field, review major findings, and highlight areas of current research. The course will focus on classic studies that have profoundly changed our understanding of human nature and social interaction. Some of the topics covered in this class will include individuals and groups, conformity and obedience, physical attraction, morality, race and intergroup relations, persuasion, and judgment and decision-making. When possible, we will focus on research that has real-world implications to demonstrate to students that social psychology is not only an academic subject but is also a tool for solving critical social issues. The course, overall, will attempt to educate students about social interaction in a supportive and intellectually stimulating environment.
