COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course on Social Innovation comprises of 4 classes and a 10 day Academic Travel to Spain (Madrid and Barcelona). The program has been developed in partnership with Emzingo, a leadership development company & Benefit Corporation based in Madrid, Spain.The customised program "Impact Trek" for Franklin MSIM students includes interactions with different stakeholders from academia, social enterprise corporations, and non-profit organizations.  Through different perspectives students will gain insights into diverse approaches to enable and make social impact. Through company visits, expert meetings, interactive sessions, we will explore the role of technology, gain understanding of initiatives with the private sector and benefit of multi-stakeholder collaborations.  The travel also will provide opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of the political situation, history and culture in the two cities of Madrid and Barcelona.

The two class sessions before the travel will require select readings and assignments in preparation for the travel. It will provide student with tools and the understanding of social development context, which is important from a manager’s perspective in today’s operating environment. There will be two sessions post the travel to reflect on the travel through a blog/article submission and present the research project/assignment.
