STA 111 is an introductory drawing course that develops fundamental skills such as line, chiaroscuro, volume, perspective, proportion, texture, composition, and design. Drawing is explored as a tool for observation, analysis, visual thinking, and communication, with connections to the applied arts and contemporary practice.
Students work with a variety of media and approaches, including still life, landscape, figure drawing, abstraction, geometric drawing, paper engineering, and printmaking. The course also includes studio sessions, presentations, exhibition or studio visits, and a printmaking workshop led by a professional printmaker.
STA 211 and STA 311 build on these foundations at intermediate and advanced levels, with greater emphasis on individual projects, artistic development, contemporary practices, and critical thinking. All sections require an art supplies fee.
