This course explores the principles of sustainable economics, focusing on balancing economic development with environmental sustainability and social equity. Students will begin by examining the foundational macroeconomic model, providing a solid basis for subsequently analyzing emerging frameworks in sustainable economics. Topics of interest include metrics and indicators of sustainability; doughnut economics, post-growth and degrowth economics, wellbeing economics, and human rights–based approaches to economics; global supply chains; as well as policy instruments for sustainability, social equity, and sustainable economics. Throughout the course, students will apply these concepts to two real-world case studies. The course prepares students to lead transformative changes in policy and practice with a commitment to sustainability and equity.
