Alumni Database

von Carol Switzer -
The data access agreement we discussed today that outlines how you should treat the alumni database is ready for your signature in the classroom.  Please complete and sign a copy of the agreement and leave it in Nicole Crabtree or Dr. Young's mailbox, in the room near their offices.

A copy of the filtered alumni file is in your private data area. It is not a complete listing of alumni, it is an extraction of the 850 records that had an employer listed, an email address, and referred to alumni who graduated after 1994.  The data is what each alumnus has entered into the system and some of it is out of date.  As you identify people with whom you would like to speak, check to see if you can find them in LinkedIn or on their company website.

If you would like me to contact anyone on your behalf, please let me know by Friday 21 October.

All-Nighter career event 10 November

von Carol Switzer -

Across Switzerland, universities host companies and invite students to network and explore career opportunities, from 18:00 to midnight and beyond.  Attendance is mandatory.  Sign up by 22 October.

Go to the Franklin Career Navigator on moodle and scroll down to

Long Night of Careers @ USI (Deadline October 22nd)

"Long Night" is the translation they use for "Notte Bianca" which is the event's name in Italian.  It actually means "All-nighter" which is a better description of the event!

Assignment 8: MOCK Interviews

von Carol Switzer -
Instructions and expectations for this assignment are posted on Moodle.  Check inside the assignment to find the Interview Report, the Mock Interview Evaluation Form, and General Guidelines for Mock Interviews. The Interview Report can be adapted to your needs, so be creative and ensure that the form encapsulates information that is important to you about the interview.

As you set up your interviews, please let me know when with whom prior to the date of your interview. Do not wait - it takes time to organize dates with people and you all have busy schedules too.

If you need help finding people, or have identified someone and would like support in contacting them, let me know by the end of next week.

Have fun!

The PITCH Evaluations for Round 2

von Carol Switzer -

I sent this earlier in email but got an error message.  So, I am posting it here:

Attached is the excel file with the detail and consolidated evaluations for the 6 “Re-do” pitches from this morning.

Trevor, the class agreed to sharing their results within the class so as to get an understanding of what worked in your pitch across categories and compared to other pitches.  If you also agree, I will send the evaluations from last week to the group as well.

Have a good evening, buona serata,

Grades for the Pitch and for MGT600

von Carol Switzer -

Your grade for The Pitch exercise was calculated as the average of all the evaluations everyone made in class yesterday.  The overall scores ranged from 77% to 87% and specific differences were slight, most scores were 7, 8 and 9, which is why the averages merged to such a small range.  Looking at them in terms of a grade, they may be lower than you expect, and possibly you did not intend to give your peers a “B-“ or “C” grade.

If you all agree, we can have a “do-over” next week and can replace this grade.  Please respond to this posting with your vote:

Yes = do it again!  (I love to speak in public)

No = keep the grade from yesterday

If you would like to see your overall grade for MGT 600 so far, I will be in the classroom from 8:00 next Tuesday 11 October, before class.

Social Media Assignment

von Carol Switzer -
To signal that you have finished assignment 6: Social Media, send me an invite to connect on LinkedIn.  At that point, I will conduct a standard "recruiter style" check of you on social media in general to see what turns up, good or bad, and then accept your invitation.

There is nothing to submit in moodle for assignment 6 or assignment 7.  However, your grade is based on how you follow the checklist for assignment 6 and the evaluation form on moodle for assignment 7, so be sure you have considered all the points.  Note that both assignments are due tomorrow, 4 October.

I look forward to seeing you in class tomorrow.  Bring your computer so you can complete your evaluation in excel.

Individual Meetings Next Week: Where to meet?

von Carol Switzer -

Hi Everyone -

I would be happy to meet near Alba in a coffee shop for our 30 minute meetings next Tues/Wed. Please help me find a good place: not too loud, not too hot, good coffee...

This is a new type of forum I am trying so please see if you can post a response to this message.  Then, we can use this for any general info.

Thank you
